Speaker 1Welcome to the Bubble Lounge . I'm Martha Jackson , and this week we have a bonus episode , and joining me today is my good friend Christy Weitzel . We have finally been reunited . We haven't seen each other in a bit , and so we have a lot to catch up on . Christy , thank you for being here again today .

Speaker 1We're always such a good sport because I can call you at the last minute and just say , hey , we need to do this thing .
Speaker 2And you're like , you're always on board and I love that that's how you like me , because I do everything you tell me to .
Speaker 1That makes for a good friend , right ? So we have finally caught up , like I said , and we did something super fun last night that I really want to talk about . But also , before we get to that , I want to talk about , like , just how the summer started . You started off your summer with a college graduate , which is a really , really big deal at TCU , so tell us how that went .
Speaker 2Yes , it was very , very exciting . There were so many parties and mother-daughter happy hours and dinners and it was super , super fun , although I was a tiny bit disappointed in the actual graduation itself . Tcu did not have a keynote fun , although I was a tiny bit disappointed in the actual graduation itself . Tcu did not have a keynote speaker , and I was so surprised at that because Taylor Sheridan received an honorary degree from TCU and I kind of felt like he should speak , but he went to UT instead .
Speaker 1Well , go horns . Anyways , that is really strange because I feel like you know , it's been said many times TCU has really risen up and they've become one of the most expensive colleges in the country and they're competing with Ivy Leagues and all that , and it's a wonderful , wonderful school and I'm so surprised that they didn't do a little bit better with the keynote speakers .
Speaker 2Well , I kind of get it . They had three different graduation ceremonies during the day , and so , you know , usually keynote speakers go to one graduation and there's just . Tcu doesn't have the space for one large graduation , so I kind of get it , but at the same time I sort of felt like they should have had something . But it went fast , it was nice and you know .
Speaker 1Well , I think fast is good at a graduation , but it still sounds like you were a little bit disappointed , but so so be it .
Speaker 2Yeah , so be it . She has her degree in hand . Now we're on to the job search .
Speaker 1She has her degree in hand . Now we're on to the job search . Oh gosh , well , wow . It does not feel like a week since school got out for us in Highland Park . We've been through a lot , a lot has happened , and we started off the weekend going to Long Cove , which is just like a little bit over an hour out of Dallas , which is a lovely lakeside community , and we had the best time ever .
Speaker 2It is so beautiful out there , over an hour out of Dallas , which is a lovely lakeside community , and we had the best time ever . It is so beautiful out there I've only been once , but it is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds and the homes are so pretty Well , it's so relaxing .
Speaker 1Anything you want to do , they're there for you as much as you want them to be involved and to make life easy . They're there for you as much as you want them to be involved and to make life easy . They're there for you . Or if you just want to like take care of things to yourself , you can do that too , but they are just literally provide everything you could ever imagine to make for a very memorable lakeside opportunity with your grandkids , with your kids , with your friends .
Speaker 2It's such a treasure like literally almost in our backyard . I mean , the development is so I just love that developer and all the homes they've developed and it's just such a neat little tight-knit community and it's such a special place that so many people don't even know about . Yes , it's so close to home .
Speaker 1Absolutely , and , of course , as you as a decorator . If you could have seen the homes that we got to tour over the weekend , oh my gosh , I was going crazy with all the details and all the beautiful things they had . We took videos and pictures from them .
Speaker 2You know I love that .

Speaker 1Well , I haven't been there for that yet , but Memorial Weekend was really amazing . I mean , from the minute we arrived and just everything that we got to do was so cool , and the crawfish boil was really something special .
Speaker 2Now , Martha , do you eat ?
Speaker 1crawfish ? I actually don't . Really . It seems like a lot of work for just a little bit of meat . But I'll tell you who does is my son , the 16-year-old . He loves it and he is more than willing to work hard for all that meat . So he and his friend that came out with us this weekend , they were over there , they were cracking me up . They literally were just kind of on the sidelines over there just peeling and peeling and working , and working and eating , and they had the best time in the world .
Speaker 2Yeah , I'm with you on that . It's a lot of work for a little return . I do like them though .

I had had a meeting the day before this event at the Graduate Hotel , which used to be Hotel Lumen , right across from SMU , and it is a beautiful property . It's a very much a boutique hotel , but you and I got to go to the grand opening of the restaurant last night , which was pretty amazing .
Speaker 2It was so much fun and I really I'm so surprised that I did not come home with a pet donkey . What were their names ?
Speaker 1Fred and J-Lo , yeah , something like that Definitely Fred or Greg was one of them and you and I band and the donkeys and all the decorations .
Speaker 2They really pulled out all the stops and I love the Graduate Hotel brand . I think they're all charming and they're all so unique and I love the way their designers decorated the lobby and I did not get to see the rooms , but you did .
Speaker 1I did the day before . It was super cool , Like I got to go up and see the rooms . But you did , I did the day before it was super cool , Like I got to go up and see the carpet that ties in with they always tie in with the college that they're next to , and so it was , you know , red and blue and it was really very well done . And then I got to go into a room and there was so much Texas history which is what I found very fascinating is when they tour you around and they tell you all the details that you might miss if you're just staying there on a regular weekend . It was so fascinating to me , it was so super cool .
Speaker 2I was so impressed with the restaurant and just from the beginning I thought the decor was very cool and the way that they did the ceiling in there was amazing . And then all the past hors d'oeuvres oh my gosh . You and I sampled so much food . What was your favorite ?
Speaker 1Oh , my goodness , I would say a brisket nacho , I think is probably the best , like they're known for their smoked flavors . And then also they would toss in some cilantro , which I always love , which I think just freshens up any food and makes it taste extra , extra good , and that was so good . But you and I , we sampled quite a bit of different things and I literally , I remember saying at the end of the night , I wish we could just sit down here and have an actual meal , because I'm , like , would like to have dinner now I know everything was amazing and and also the cocktails were amazing too .
Speaker 2We sampled one of each of those .
Speaker 1Well , we did , and so this ties in with how we were actually greeted when we first got there is we were immediately given this
Catching Up on Summer Beginnings
Speaker 1beaded necklace with the shot glass on the necklace . Both of us declined that . We just weren't feeling it with that right .
Speaker 2We were good . Yes , that's correct .
Speaker 1But here's what I did notice as the night went on yours ended up in my purse without me noticing , because you were very discreet about tucking it into my purse because I had a big purse . Last night you noticed that finally , that was kind of funny . Anyways , I never know what you're going to do with things like that . Like I just wasn't feeling it for you and me doing that .
Speaker 2But you know I'm kind of an outgrown shots at this age , but you know there's a lot of people that still like them and it was fun that they had that and the donkeys were just absolutely precious and I thought that mariachi band was First of all . Their costumes were amazing . Yes , they were so beautiful too .
Speaker 1They were so great .
Speaker 2They really brought a fun vibe to the party .
Speaker 1But I was so surprised because and it's hard to get a crowd , especially in this neighborhood , especially on , you know , fall it on the tails of summer kicking off and everyone's traveling . It was a full house last night .
Speaker 2It could be at least 200 people at least in that space , and I thought it was super festive . You know , what was also fun is I felt like I was at a fashion show summer fashion show . I love to see what all of our peers are wearing and everybody always looks so beautiful and amazing . And yeah , it was . It was just a great night . I was so honored to be a part of it and I would definitely go back and try the food . And I'm so excited that they're there because I think our neighborhood needs another casual family restaurant just around the corner , Like that's going to be easy , Like kids could or a family could ride their bikes up there or take their golf cart or walk or whatever they do or , you know , traditionally drive . But but I think it's , I think it's going to be well-received by the park cities , because we need something . We need a new Mexican restaurant like that .
Speaker 1We definitely need more Tex-Mex in the park cities . So I mean , it's a fun fact , guys , it's high-end and healthy . Though we love our Tex-Mex in this neighborhood , it's a fact Like it never hurts to have some more , right , Exactly ?
Speaker 2I mean we went often . It's like a healthier , just the health it felt , it tasted healthier than most Tex-Mex Super fresh .
Speaker 1Yes , I would agree . I just think some of the extra touches with the cilantro and everything and the tortilla , sauce on the chicken nacho .
Speaker 2That was smoked chicken . It was amazing . I think that was my favorite .
Speaker 1Well , and then I have spent some time today looking at some videos of people that have had a full meal there and , um , they were talking about a smoke sauce that apparently is served with a lot of the meats . That is amazing . So well , no wonder we loved it , I know it's very I can't wait to go and just like sit down and actually experience a meal there . Let's go next week .

Speaker 2Absolutely . I think that's so nice . I think the community will definitely rally behind this restaurant because it was fantastic .
Speaker 1I mean you could tell by the turnout . You and I kept running into people that we both knew . All night long . It was a packed crowd , it was super fun , it was a great night . Well , so there's a lot going on in the neighborhood . We keep talking about construction . Like I said , this is a bonus episode this week , so we're following the heels , did you see ?
Speaker 2the water main break yesterday , oh my gosh . In Highland Park , on Abbott oh , I missed that . You missed it , martha . On top of all the construction on Hillcrest , preston , lovers , miracle Mile , now Abbott is completely torn up . They were replacing the water main system and all the old pipes burst in like six different places . So that is a complete nightmare now in addition to all the other stuff that's going on .
Speaker 1Okay . Well , you just broke the news right here and I love that and I appreciate that today , but good gosh , I mean . So I think the takeaway and I don't know the specifics on that situation but I think the takeaway and I don't know the specifics on that situation , but I think the takeaway that I've heard so far is just the infrastructure we're looking at 100 years plus , yes , and like underground , we don't know what's going on down there , but apparently a lot is of the ladies that they have been replacing pipes in the old or the system , and the pipes that are new were fine , but the pipes that were old are the ones that when they turned the system on , it just burst all the the old pipes that are 100 years old .
Speaker 2So it's going to be a while before they get all that fixed . But you know , I think the takeaway is just you're just going to have to walk everywhere . You're going to have to walk to shop on lovers , you're going to have to walk to Knox Henderson . So we're just going to have to sweat a little and walk a lot .
Speaker 1Well , I mean , I definitely think that we just need to be very patient , like there's just a lot going on in the neighborhood right now and my biggest thing is I want everyone to support our small local businesses like that is so important to me . That's a big part of what the bubble lounge is all about , and we can't just say , you know what , it's not convenient to get in there , so we can't support them anymore we have an extra effort yeah , please do everyone absolutely , especially all the mom and pop businesses on lovers lane .
Speaker 2They , they're really up against all odds and I just fingers crossed that they make it and their , their supporters are loyal and you know I'll , I'll definitely keep continuing to go , yeah definitely and buy food and All the things .
Speaker 1Exactly Tires , I mean , there's tires to be had , there's so like anything you need is to be had , like we talked about that a lot on our previous episode this week with Katie Barron from the City of University Park is just how many things there are right in that area and how many things you can do and you should do and just supporting those local businesses . Well , speaking of local businesses , I hear that you are kind of thinking about some new stuff with you in addition to already being a decorator .
Speaker 2I didn't know we were going to mention that , but okay . If you're not ready to talk about it , we don't have to , it's okay , I'm in the very preliminary stages of designing a line of skirts and also doing this with my youngest daughter , who is a fashion major at TCU , and so we're collaborating and , like I said , it's in the very early stages . I have the designs and we're still looking for pattern makers and so forth . But , yes , that will probably be coming out this fall .
Speaker 1Well , I am super excited . She's even offered to make me something for cattle barons , which makes me really happy , because I always stress about what I'm going to wear to that . I've really got to get busy now . Right , I mean no pressure at all , christy , exactly . Oh , my goodness . Well , I love . Hannah is actually over here here in the studio , as we like to call it . She's giggling quietly at us . I'm sure she is . I'm like .

Speaker 2Well , let's ? Yes , definitely so , for we're going to Switzerland for three weeks . That is so cool . I'm super excited . How did that ?
Speaker 1become the thing to do , because you and I were talking last night and you were like , you thought you were like so original . And then I too have seen some people posting stuff recently . I feel like that's where everyone is going in the summer . It's the new Beaver Creek . How did that happen though ?
Speaker 2I have no idea . I felt like when we went to Italy several years ago , everybody was in Italy that summer and I think it's the same .
Speaker 1It's kind of loud right , that's like our ring doorbell . Oopsie daisies , that was my phone , so what inspired you to go there ?
Speaker 2Well , it's Hallie's graduation gift or her graduation trip , I should say and she chose Switzerland . She's our active girl and she wants to . We've got some guided hikes through the Alps , from town to town . We're doing some bike rides , bike trips , we're going to go paragliding , whitewater rafting . We're doing all of the mountain things throughout Switzerland . So we're so excited . We're even doing a chocolate making class , a watch making class , cheese making . So we've got a lot , a lot of fun activities planned for the three weeks that we're there .
Speaker 1Oh my , God , that is so cool . I feel like the key to that is having a guided tour . You've mentioned that a couple of times . To me , anyways , it's just like you would not normally probably think of most of those activities as something that you would want to do , but they all sound super fascinating .
Speaker 2Well , when we travel , we love to do the tourist things , but we also like to get really local and really learn about the culture . And that's why we use guided tours , because when we go from town to town in the Alps , we're going to little bitty , tiny towns that are off the beaten path , that nobody's probably even heard of . And that way , you know , I feel like you just get such a better or richer cultural experience when you can get out of the big cities and away from the tourist . You know all the museums and things .
Speaker 1We're doing that as well , but we're doing a little bit of both . You're going to be there for a long time , so you get to supplement , you know , touristy and local things . I love that . I'm excited .
Speaker 2So that's pretty much what we're doing this summer . We've got a small trip to Crested Butte and then a wedding in Michigan . But what are you doing this summer ? I don't even think we talked about that last night .
Speaker 1So so far it sounds like I'm going on some back-to-back lacrosse tournaments . I'm going to Maryland and Delaware back-to-back oh awesome , I know , right , I mean . So I mean I don't think there's any chocolate making . There's probably no watchmaking in Delaware and Maryland , but you know it's going to be a good time with the boys , so you might find a hill to hike . There probably is some hiking and hopefully cooler weather , so it will all work out . It's going to be great .
Speaker 2It'll be nice , and it'll be nice to be with Blake too It'll .
Speaker 1It'll be good to have that mother son time it's always good when you spend time one-on-one with your kids , especially when they're younger , because you don't get that during the normal course of the school year . You're so busy just trying to keep up with everything , so there is always special memories and special moments that do happen , so I am looking forward to that . Yeah , that'll be that will be nice , that'll be super nice . I don't feel like it compares to Sweden , anyways .
Graduate Hotel Restaurant Opening
Speaker 2Switzerland . Why do I keep saying that it's okay , it's , it's um , it's middle age , it's okay should I ?
Speaker 1should I change that ? No , it's not funny . It's not funny , it's fine . Okay . Where do we go from here ?
Speaker 2You could talk about . How is it having the girls ?
Speaker 1Oh yeah , yeah , yeah , yeah . So you have a very interesting situation in that you have a little bit of a cozy home right now and all four of you are back together and I don't think that you guys have done this Like you haven't been like together as a family in a little bit .
Speaker 2Correct , especially for last summer when we still had our house . We're in between homes right now and it is getting very cozy , yes , but you know I love when all four had our house . We're in between homes right now and it is getting very cozy , yes , but I love when all four of us together . Our empty nesting period lasted about three minutes Because while all four of us are together , hallie is back living with us permanently since graduating , so we're hoping that she'll live with us for a year and save money once she gets a job . But that's fun , but it is . It's an adjustment , after you know . It's more laundry , more cooking , more cleaning , more I mean more everything but more laughter , more fun , and so it's been awesome having both girls home .
Speaker 1Yeah , you definitely have to focus on the positive . I mean , at our house , when everyone is there , it's definitely more messy and there's more dishes and all the stuff , but I wouldn't trade it Also , so okay . So what is interesting is Christy is currently living down by Katie Trail and she and I literally walked Katie Trail this morning . The weather was pretty decent for this time of year , which we both love . It was awesome . We had a really good time , like it was just very nice to go up and down the trail right .
Speaker 2Yes , oh , my goodness , I love , I absolutely love the location of where we are , because I can walk everywhere . I don't have to ever get in my car if I don't need to .
Speaker 1You literally can hop right on the trail , which I really don't ever get in my car , even if I need to , because it's in the garage and there's two cars parked behind me .
Speaker 2I don't have the luxury of that , but for this little transitional period it's perfect . It's fine . I feel fortunate to have it , and it's the Katy Trail . Oh my gosh , I love the Katy Trail . I love to look at everybody's dogs . I love to look . I mean dogs , I love to look . I mean talk about another fashion show . That may not be the best fashion show , it's fun to see what people wear and crazy things that happen on the Katy Trail .
Speaker 1No , I would agree and you and I talked about that a lot today and I don't know if you're willing to share , but you were talking about the military walk that happened like literally earlier this week and it sounded pretty amazing and I knew nothing of it and I want to put it on my calendar for next year .
Speaker 2Yes , so it's the Memorial Day walk and it's incredible there's so many people that show up to honor our fallen servicemen and women , women and then they have pictures of of all of our service , of , uh , fallen service men and women all along the katie trail and it has like a little paragraph below of um , you know just a little blip about their lives and it really makes you proud and grateful that somebody was willing to fight for us and it really kind of puts life in perspective . But , um , but it . I think it's such an awesome walk and then it ends in reverchon park with a big like they have a band and a big celebration and I think they had some food vendors . I didn't go , but I know I saw a lot about it on the news . Next year , next year , we'll do both .
Speaker 1I would love to put that on my calendar . So a lot has changed down in that area and it just seemed a lot more developed . There's a lot of construction , just like there is all over our neighborhood right now . It just seems like there's a lot going on , a lot of opportunities down there .
Speaker 2Yes , definitely . There's so much construction and lots of new restaurants going on and , around the Katy Trail , lots of new development apartments , office buildings , and I mean Dallas is just growing . I will say , though , that I did get a neighborhood text , that there is some . I mean , this is just for all girls to be cognizant of their whereabouts and to not have their music on full blast , but there's a stalker that's been stalking young women walking the katie trail , and so just you know . Everybody just needs to be aware when they're walking back to their apartments or right homes or whatever .
Speaker 1Yeah , I've definitely seen some posts on that and some of our uh neighborhood watch , uh facebook pages , so I agree with you like you just have to always be like , you know , on alert and ready for these things and just paying attention and everything , for sure , for sure . So for those of us that are not really traveling this much this summer , let's talk about some places that are kind of close that we can drive to and have a good time , like I feel like Glen Rose is always a good time .
Speaker 2That is so much fun . I love that fossil room out there . I think that's such a neat thing that we really have right in our backyard I just , I love it out there , glenrose , and then even going out to Possum Kingdom Lake or Weatherford or Johnson City . It goes on there . Just pull that out of the hat . Oh , green hall yes , new new braunfels and green hall .
Speaker 2That is so much fun to float the river and and then go for , you know , sit outside and listen to live music . And who doesn't love chicken fried steak ? I mean , they have the best in the entire world . I'm trying to think what . Oh , and Wimberley , texas is super fun , and these are all like you can . I would probably spend the night if I drove down there , but you could potentially get up early , spend the day , float the river and drive back if you wanted to , but there's so many fun things to do . And then there's the caves . In Texas , and even in Dallas alone , we have so many walking trails besides the Katy Trail , and there's a ton of bike trails as well , especially like once you get up towards Frisco and Prosper . There's some beautiful areas to hike . I can't think of their names , but they're Google-able . Is that a ?
Speaker 1word . Say that again Google-able . That is so funny . Well , you threw out some really good ideas because I was just thinking , like you know , Glen Rose Cedar Creek Lake , of course , is great Austin and then Oklahoma , for Turner Falls is beautiful to go . Look around you and I both went to .
Speaker 1OU . So yeah , you know about that . But I love your hiking ideas because I feel like so often , because we don't have necessarily the best weather for hiking in the summer , we kind of forget that that is an option yeah , and let's not forget the new um at that new theme theme and water park , pippa pig oh my god , that is so funny , is it ?
Speaker 2our children are too old , but if we have grandchildren or little bitties , that's um , that's supposed to be really fun .
Speaker 1I've heard great things about it it's hilarious because , like my son , my 16 year old has said that Peppa Pig is like a really big trend right now with , like , his age group . No way .
Speaker 2Yeah , that is hilarious . You know that he'll be going this summer .
Speaker 1I don't know if he will be , but I'm sure girls he knows will be . Yeah , that is hilarious .
Speaker 2I don't know . Oh , in Fort Worth , we didn't even talk about our hometown , martha , our hometown . Yes , there's so much going on in Fort Worth . You have the Cowboy I mean the Cowgirl Museum , yes , plus , not to mention the Kimball . I mean , the museums there are amazing . And then there's also the new well , the Hotel Drover , the Bowie House , and then the new C crescent is there , with canyon ranch spa . I mean , there's so many great
Nostalgic Memories and Final Thoughts
Speaker 2, beautiful places to stay , and the restaurants over there are amazing too . And you can take the train . I've never done that . I think that'd be super fun . We should do that .
Speaker 1Let's do that okay , well , for sure , from sweden , as I keep calling it .

Speaker 1Yes , they're both a swath Right . Yes , I mean , that's what I'm doing , anyways , like Fort Worth , that's . The big reason I moved to Dallas is we just didn't have the amenities and all the stuff to do . And now , good gosh , I mean they have everything and the zoo , oh my goodness .
Speaker 2I think it's the number one zoo , or at least the top five in the United States .
Speaker 1Yeah , for sure , One of the rest . But I mean Fort Worth has come along so much since you and I lived there . And of course , your girls are there now , so you're spending a lot of time .
Speaker 2I'm sure I could hook us up with some Darties at TCU , you know .
Speaker 1That is the funniest thing . Like I feel like we I'm getting the eye roll from Hannah over in the corner . I know I'm not even looking at her right now because I don't want to be distracted , but I can feel her energy over there . I'm like mom , stop it Right ? Yes , anyways , fun fact , she's my goddaughter and then Christy is my daughter's godmother , and Alexis literally just said this week there was something she wanted , solved magically . She goes I just wish that I had a godmother that could do that . I go . Well , that's kind of my role .
Speaker 1Yeah , that's Christy's role . No , I didn't say that you should have told her to call me . I did not say that . I just said that's kind of more in the Cinderella movies . It's not real life , but you know , good idea .
Speaker 2We were just talking about Cinderella this morning on our walk .
Speaker 1Oh my gosh , we were Chrissy had a really , really funny story . Do you want to share it ?
Speaker 2We were just reminiscing about our children and how quickly motherhood has gone by and their lives , how quickly they've grown up . And I asked Martha if she remembered when Hallie and Hannah had a joint birthday party , and I think Hannah was two and Hallie was five and I hired Cinderella , but who I really hired was Cinderella , and she showed up with torn clothing on and soot on her face . It was Cinderella before she actually turned into the beautiful Cinderella . And so Cinderella came and I thought , for sure she's going to go change any minute , for sure she's going to go change . And she never did so we just had to go Soak in , yes , soak in , cindy .
Speaker 1That is such a good story . I love it . I mean , it's just such a easy mistake any of us could have made , like by . If you're , I'm sure you were like on the website and you clicked the wrong thing or whatever .
Speaker 2Probably or I was sleep deprived and exhausted and just had to get it somebody .
Speaker 1I just had to check those boxes . It was pretty attention , it was pretty funny . Well , christy , this has been so much fun catching up and laughing and all the stuff . I'm super excited for summer . I mean , I think that we have a lot of fun things planned and things to look forward to .
